The following are frequently asked questions for renting apartments in Japan.


1. Can a non-Japanese citizen rent an apartment?
Answer: Yes.
2. What do we need for renting an apartment?
Answer: You need one or two employed guarantors.
You also need to have a job.
3. How do we sign a contract?
Answer: Before signing, you need an inkanshoumei,
documents of your guarantors' registered seals,
and your juminhyo, a residence certificate
from the local municipal office.
4. Can we have the deposit back when we move out?
Answer: Yes. The contract usually expires after two years.
Then you have the right to have it refunded
less the cost to repair any damage and cleaning required.
